Commercial Babylon
"The kings of
the earth who prostituted themselves and lived luxuriously with her will weep
and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning. - Alas, alas, that
great city that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned
with gold and precious stones and pearls!”(Rev.18:9 and 16) Unlike spiritual
Babylon, the destruction of commercial Babylon generates great lamentation. Who
is this Babylon? A strong candidate is New York for its stock exchange that moves
most of worldwide trade. London would be a second candidate to be the city with
the second largest stock exchange. (Maybe Asia stock exchange exceed today
London’s) These two exchange centers were, until very recently ago, the only
ones allowed to trade petroleum. All transactions with oil had to be made in
U.S. Dollars. With that almost all other
business transactions were transacted in U.S.
Dollars, as well. The reference: ”Every shipmaster, all who travel by
ship, sailors, and as many as commercial on the sea, stood at a distance and
cried when they saw the smoke of her burning " (Rev.18:17b–18b) The
”at a distance" sounds, however, more appropriate to the location of
the city of London on the banks of the Thames river, a little more away from
the sea than New York. But it may be, too, because the near by ships will be
destroyed with the coming destruction of New York or that they maintain a safe
distance because of any eventual nuclear radiation, perhaps. The banks that
regulate or control the banks of the world are in London. In all cases, its
destruction appears to be something like the explosion of a nuclear weapon
through which God destroys it. It hardly can be geographical Babylon since it
is some 500 km from shore but Revelations states that “they
(the sailors) saw the smoke
of her burning"
The destruction
of part of Iran
"Thus says Jehovah of Hosts: Behold, I will break the
bow of Elam, the chief of their might. And I will bring the four winds from the
four corners of the heavens upon Elam, and will scatter them toward all these
winds. And there shall be no nation where the outcasts of Elam shall not come.
For I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies and before those who
seek their life. And I will bring evil
upon them, even My fierce anger, says Jehovah. And I will send the sword after
them until I have finished them; and I will set My throne in Elam, and will
destroy the king and the rulers from there, says Jehovah. But it shall come to pass
in the latter days, that
I will bring back the captives of Elam, says Jehovah.” (Jer.49:35-39)
